Liberia Women’s National Team Duo Embarks On New Chapter In The US

After arriving in the United States to embark on another chapter of their football careers through a football scholarship, Liberian duo Angeline Kieh and Agatha Nimene have commenced pre-season training with Campbellsville University (CU) Women’s team, the Lady Tigers.

The duo were pictured among their teammates participating in several drills including speed drills, ladder drills and passing and receiving among others.

Pre-season training, in any sport, is essential to a team’s preparation for the next season. Athletes will need to be at peak fitness for the season ahead.

The training also allows athletes to build solid fitness foundations, improve technical ability, and ultimately ensure optimum performance.

The duo, who finished as joint top goal scorers in the 2020/21 LFA Upper Women’s division league with 26 goals apiece, were announced by CU women’s team in June as two of several new signees for the 2021 Fall season.

CU is a private Christian university in Campbellsville, Kentucky, United States founded as Russell Creek Academy, a Baptist institution, and currently enrolls more than 12,000 students of all denominations.

The university has several teams in different sporting disciplines including football, volleyball, basketball, golf, and baseball among others. The teams are nicknamed as the Tigers with official colors of maroon and gray.

The university is a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), primarily competing in the Mid-South Conference.

Both Angeline and Agatha were added on the roster of the Lady Tigers to increase their attacking threat for the upcoming Fall season.

The Lady Tigers are expected to kick off their new season on August 29, when they travel away to Roosevelt University at the Morris Field in Arlington Heights, Illinois.

After dominating the Liberia women’s league for the past seasons, both Angeline and Agatha now have the task to showcase what they are made off in a new environment.

Angeline won the 2018/2019 women’s MVP ahead of Agatha after accumulating the highest votes from coaches, captains and journalists during the LFA awards.
