WAFU-A Women’s Championship: Senegal Defeat Gambia 4-1 to Advance to Semifinals

After yet another impressive victory, Senegal have further demonstrated their dominance in the WAFU-A Women’s Championship.

The champions defeated The Gambia 4-1 to maintain their group B lead and advance to the semifinals.

The Gambia had intended to put all of its bodies forward in the match, but the Senegalese showed that they are the tournament champions.

Habsatou Malado Diallo, who scored all four goals, was the match’s hero after becoming just the second player to do so in a single game, following The Gambia’s star player Catherine Jatta, who accomplished the feat in their 4-1 victory over Sierra Leone.

Jatta scored The Gambia’s lone goal, bringing her total to five goals, one less than Malado Diallo of Senegal, who is currently leading the scoring chart with six goals.

Guinea narrowly defeated Sierra Leone 1-0 in the opening game of the day to recover from a 4-1 defeat against Senegal in their first game.

The Gambia and Guinea’s matchup on the third and final day of this group promises to be exciting. The winner will join Senegal in the semifinals.
