Kgatlana: South Africa Midfielder Signs Two-Year Deal With Atletico Madrid

Banyana Banyana star Thembi Kgatlana has signed a two-year deal with Spanish top-flight side Atletico Madrid.

The 25-year-old former CAF African Footballer of the Year, joins the club from domestic rivals Eibar where she spent only one season.

During her short spell at Eibar, she made 21 appearances for the side, scoring 10 goals in the process.

“I am very happy to arrive at Atlético de Madrid. As a footballer you always dream of playing for the best clubs,” she said at her unveiling on Tuesday.

Kgatlana has previously played for Portuguese top tier side Benfica Feminino, Beijing BG Phoenix in China and Houston Dash in the United States.

She has represented South Africa at the Africa Women’s Cup of Nations in 2018 and the 2019 Women’s World Cup in France last year, where she scored the team’s only goal of the tournament.
