Host Gabon Gets Dumped Out of the AFCON Tournament

The goalless draw saw Cameroon qualify for the next round while hosts Gabon dropped out after a not so thrilling match.

Gabon started off the hungrier of the teams as they had two chances in less than two minutes. One when the Keeper dropped the ball and the second when Andre Biyogo Poko played a pass into the box but Fabrice Ondoa reacted well to snuff out the attack.

Aubameyang then missed a sitter -possibly the miss of the tournament when Denis Bouanga slid a brilliant pass to him only for his shot to go a whisker wide of the right post.

Cameroon came close to scoring an opening goal in the 13th minute when a cross towards the penalty spot was met by Adolphe Teikeu who produced a decent header which went a whisker wide of the right post.

Sebastien Siani then sent a first –time shot from the edge of the box a few minutes into the second half only for it to fly narrowly wide of the post.

Cameroon continued to frustrate Gabon’s efforts as Fabrice Ondoa denied Gabon when he dived and made a save from Denis Bouanga’s free kick and made another fabulous save in the dying minutes of the game to deny Didier Ndong’s rebound.

The match had some chances and nice movements, but the overall impression of the game was rather average and not hugely entertaining.
