Ghanaian Club FC Savannah Ladies’ Bus Attacked By Armed Robbers

A bus carrying Ghanaian Women’s Premier League side FC Savannah Ladies was attacked by armed robbers leaving one club official critically injured, according to the club.

FC Savannah confirmed the bus was shot at on Kumasi Highway, as it drove players to an away match against Dreamz Ladies FC in the Ashanti Region.

Armed robbers were said to have been dressed in the uniforms of the Ghanaian army when they attacked.

A statement from FC Savannah on their Twitter read; “Thanks to Allah, the team has arrived safely in Kumasi. All players are fine but one official sustained injuries. Meanwhile the robbers made away with monies of the persons on board.”

Savannah are currently at the bottom of the 11 teams Northern Zone league table, with just seven points from 13 matches.

The club has since confirmed that the fixture has been postponed to Sunday morning and will be played at the Bantama Astro Pitch.

Following the Friday incident, the Ghana Football Association has advised team to avoid night travels, and where required engage the security services or seek security advice before making trips.

Ghanaian clubs typically have to travel long distances for fixtures, with this latest attack occurring in Ashanti Region where   Ashanti Gold were involved in a similar raid.
