Ethiopian under 17 women’s national team’s journey to the 2022 Women’s World Cup will begin with a qualifier match against Uganda this Friday, March 4 in Uganda.

The team will depart for Uganda today after a couple of weeks on training camp. Head coach Endalkachew Chaka had earlier called up 44 players from February 11 for preparation before reducing his list to 25 players for the match.

Addressing a news conference before the team’s departure, Coach Chaka said he and his girls’ ultimate goal is to reach India, with Uganda’s game being the first focus.

Making reference to the Ethiopian U-20 Women’s team recent performance, Coach Chaka said his main aim is to prepare players who are suitable for the under 20 national team, and at the same time create a successful team.

Ethiopia U-20 Women’s national team are now a step away from booking their ticket for the 2022 U-20 Women’s World Cup in Costa Rica after recovering from a 1-0 defeat against Tanzania in the first-leg to complete a 2-0 comeback in the return-leg of the fourth round.

They defeated Rwanda and Botswana in the first two rounds of the qualifiers.

The spotlight is now on the U-17 as they face a strong side, Uganda, and Coach Chaka and his girls seem fully prepared.
