Determine Girls Eying A Win Over Green Buffaloes

Determine Girls are set to be tested when they face Green Buffaloes in their CAF Women’s Champions League Group A opener at Stade Prince Heritier Moulay El Hassan in Rabat, Morocco.

Kickoff is at 17h00 GMT.

The doubled champions of Liberian Women’s First Division will be looking at bagging a win to get their group stage off to a bright start, however, facing the Zambian outfit could prove to be a daunting task.

Looking at their previous result, Determine Girls have been impressive in 2022/23 season, as they remain undefeated in their last five games. They won first three games and drawn their last two.

The West Africans qualified for the Champions League after edging Senegalese outfit USPA and Malian giants AS Mande in the WAFU Zone A qualifiers.

Determine Girls striker Bountou Sylla, who ended as the 2022 Liberian topflight top scorer with 58 goals, says her side is motivated to go past the group stages of the competition.

“Our main focus now is that we want to make our fans happy and qualify out our Group A and we are surely going to do it. It’s our WAFU achievement that has motivated and given us confidence for the Women’s Champions League in Morocco,” Sylla told CAF Online.

The Liberians have been in camp since the middle of October utilising the George Weah Centre in Monrovia as their base ahead of the competition.

Green Buffaloes are five times national Zambian domestic league champions, having won the title in 2016, 2018, 2019, 2020-21 and 2021/22.

The Zambians qualified for the CAF Women’s Champions League after winning the COSAFA Zone CAF Champions League qualifying tournament in South Africa.

Green Buffaloes success was achieved under coach Charles Haalubono, who doubles as the Zambian U-20 women’s manager, and he is now to achieve the continent feat.

“We have prepared well. I think we are ready for the task. We expect a lot from our girls because we know what is at stake,” Haalubono told FAZ Media in Morocco.

“Our plan is to go through the group stage. The most important game in a tournament is the first game. We should be focused and highly determined.”

In other Group A matches, ASFAR FC are set to host Simba Queens of Tanzania at Stade Prince Heritier Moulay El Hassan in Rabat, Morocco.
