Kenyan Carl “Flash” Tundo took control of day one of the ORYX Rally of Tanzania in Morogoro as the famous round of African Rally Championship head to the final day on Sunday.

The Minti Motorsport VW Polo R5 driver bossed in two of the four stages clocking 50m56sec to widen the gap between him and closest challenger Karan Patel.

Tundo, who is chasing his maiden Rally of Tanzania title, treated spectators to some exhilarating displays on the day’s four sections.

South Africa’s Guy Botterill and his partner Simon Vacy-Lyle had to contend with third position but as experts say, it’s still early.

Another Kenyan rally ace Jeremy Wahome came in at sixth place losing out to Naser by just 59 second, meaning only 7.13 seconds separates the leading five crews heading into Sunday.

Tanzania’s Dharam Padya made a positive comeback with a seventh place on day one, whereas his countryman Jamil Khan came close at eighth place.

The Dar-es-Salaam speed merchant completed the super special in a time of 3m36sec, 3 milliseconds lower than Gurjit Dhani who sits ninth overall.
