Super Falcons Drop In FIFA Rankings

Nigeria’s senior women’s national team has dropped three places in the latest FIFA ranking released on Friday, December 10.

The Super Falcons dropped from 38th to 41st position in the world, but are still the number one team in Africa.

Cameroon, second in Africa, also dropped three places to 53rd position from 52nd in the global ranking.

The Banyana Banyana of South Africa, who still remains third in Africa, also went down one place to 55th in the global rankings.

Five African teams-Niger, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, Benin and Liberia- joined global women’s hierarchy after meeting the necessary criteria to make it to the FIFA ranking.

FIFA’s ranking system requires every national team to play at least five matches against other ranked teams in the span of 18 months.

In December’s FIFA ranking, World Cup champions the United States of America remain at number one team in the world, a position that they have held since 2017.

Spain remained second globally followed by former champions Germany at third position while France are fourth, leapfrogging the Netherlands, who have paid the price for recent results against the Czech Republic and Japan.
