Struggling South African Club Sign League Champion to Consolidate Porous Defence

Desperate to seal a back-four that has shipped in three goals in four outings, Stellenbosch FC have acquired the services of veteran Robyn Johannes.

Desperate to seal a back-four that has shipped in three goals in four outings, Stellenbosch FC have acquired the services of veteran Robyn Johannes.

The 33-year-old joins up with the Coetzenburg Stadium outfit on a free transfer a week after his decision to walk away from Bidvest.

Gaffer Steve Barker has been bubbling under pressure to patch up a porous backline and considers four-time capped South Africa international the perfect in the bolt.

A league champion with Orlando Pirates, Robyn found playing time hard to come by at Bidvest Wits and was linked with Cape Town City but opted to reunite with gaffer Barker.

The deal crossed the line following the centre-back’s completion of a medical.

He’s expected to partner with Morgan Gould and Marc Van Heerden in a paring, it’s hoped, could mark the beginning of an end to Stellenbosch FC’s kamikaze defending.

Johannes is tipped to make his debut this Sunday away to sixth-placed Bloemfontein Celtic.
