Simba Queens Qualify For CAF Women’s Champions League In Morocco

  • admin

Simba Queens crowned the inaugural winners of the 2021 CAF Women’s Champions League CECAFA Qualifiers with a 1-0 victory over She Corporate in the final played at Azam Sports Complex in Dar es Salaam on Saturday.

The Tanzanian side not only claimed bragging rights in the region but also booked their ticket to the CAF Women’s Champions League that is scheduled for Morocco later in the year.

Both sides looked positive in the early stage of the game as they pressed forward with the intention of playing attacking football.

Simba showed a few promising moments in attack with great interplay in midfield, but they lacked the decisive final ball and struggled to create a proper chance.

The chances were few and far between throughout the game as neither side managed to truly threaten the opposition goal.

Corporate only found the target with two of their attempts in the game, while Queens  did little better with three.

However, in the 46th minute the breakthrough finally arrived thanks to Kenyan midfielder Corazone Aquino who converted a penalty after one of Queens striker was brought down in the area by a Corporate defender.

The Ugandans tested Gerwa Rugomba in the 76th minute after some impressive build-up play gave Cisy Nakate a chance to hammer a shot on target, but the goalkeeper was up to the task.

Jacqline Nakasi came on for Nakate in the last 10 minutes to help see out the game as Queens shut up shop to claim their maiden CECAFA title.
