Senegal’s Ndiaye Pins Elimination to Fatigue

It was a bitter pill to down for Senegalese fans after boxer Pape Mamadou Ndiaye’s elimination in the Olympics qualifiers.

Mamadou flew out to the United States for his preparation and had the chance to spar with one of America’s finest Olympians in efforts to grab a Tokyo ticket.

Pape was however stopped in his tracks by Angola’s Daniel Edouardo Zola but pins the unexpected loss to recuperation problems.

“I am very sorry to be eliminated. I had prepared myself well in New York (United States). I had made great fights which I won,” he said.

He continued: “This defeat has to do with fatigue, I can say. I came six days before the competitions. I did not recover well. I started the fight well. I got a hit that matters a lot in boxing. That’s what penalized me a little.”

There’s still hope of qualification with a couple more Senegalese boxers still in contention for places and Ndiaye hopes this is realised.

“I tried to go back to the second recovery. But, I finished strong in the third . I did not expect to lose the fight because in the USA, I trained with the champion of New York. It is difficult to lose but the others will take up the challenge. They are all Lions. I pray that on the rest that two or three go to the Olympics.”
