Controversy marred last weekend’s epic battle between Boy Niang and Lac2 Guier in a Senegalese wrestling match.

The furore occurred in the dying minutes of a drab showdown. The atmosphere was marred by a smattering of boos by spectators in strong protest of what they called the wrestler’s refusal to fight.

The outcome of the duel had been long predicted to run down the allocated 30 minutes given that both athletes are defence minded. In the lead up to Saturday’s fight, they’d vowed not to play it boring.

Controversy  emerged when Boy Niang took the initiative to impose himself on Lac, pulling him by the smalls forward. Lac, on reading the move, put up a pocket of resistance combining it with an attempt to bundle his adversary.

Niang kept up the pressure and balanced his opponent as they went crashing into the sands with the latter going down on all fours.

The arbiter halted the game hesitating to make a decision as both wrestlers claimed victory.

Consequently, a replay was ordered. The pattern did not change on the resumption of the fight and the referee had to bring the game to an end after both combatants incurred five warnings each.
