Rwanda international Yves Kimenyi will captain SC Kiyovu in the 2020/2021 season, the club has revealed.

The 27-year-old goalkeeper replaces All Serumugo who has been demoted to the role of the vice-captain.

The former Sunrise FC custodian joined the team in May after one season with another Rwanda Premier League outfit Rayon Sports.

In an interview with Kigali-based newspaper, The New Times, Kimenyi says he is delighted to have been named the captain of the Green and White.

“I am happy to be in this position to lead my teammates and I hope that we will work together to achieve success in the coming season,” said Kimenyi

The Amavubi custodian also noted that he hoped with support from the club management and coaches, the team will achieve its goals.

Kimenyi is expected to fight for a starting position with Nzeyurwanda Djihadi as the club looks to win a first league title in almost 30 years.

Before his move to Gikundiro, Kimenyi played for local giants APR for five years where his prowess helped the side win three league titles.

It is worth noting that at one time Kimenyi was dropped from Rwanda national team after the authorities discovered that he had two differing years of birth on his current and previous travel passport.
