Sadio Mane Named In 27-Man Senegal Squad For AFCON 2021

Senegal coach Aliou Cisse has named his squad for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations scheduled to begin next month in Cameroon.

While the squad boasts of some big-name players who are contracted to teams in top European leagues, other stars have been left out of the squad.

Among the players that have been left out of Cissé’s squad include Krepin Diatta, Mame Biram Diouf, Cheikh Ndoye and Adama Mbegue.

Diatta, who turns for AS Monaco picked up anterior cruciate ligament injury in his club’s league match against Lille where he scored his first goal of the season in November.

Lions of Teranga will gave stars such as Liverpool forward Sadio Mane, Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly, Crystal Palace midfielder Cheikhou Kouyate, Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Idrissa Gana Gueye among others.

Coach Cissé will be guiding Senegal in AFCON for his third time, and this time he will be hoping to win the trophy.

The 45-year-old was in charge of Senegal in the previous edition in Egypt, where they lost 1-0 to Algeria in the final.

The Lions of Teranga  have been drawn in Group B in Africa Cup of Nations and will begin their tournament against Zimbabwe on January 1, before facing Guinea and then Malawi on January 14 and January 18.
