Rwanda Cancels League Resumption Date

The Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA) has changed the resumption date of the Rwanda Premier League.

The Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA) has changed the resumption date of the Rwanda Premier League.

The league was originally scheduled to resume on October 30, 2020 but the plans have now been put on hold until further notice.

The federation sent a letter to clubs on Friday informing them about the changes, with reports suggesting the league will resume in December.

“We would like to bring to your attention the changes regarding the start of competitions for the 2020-2021 football season. Further details about the start of the new season will soon be communicated to you,” the letter reads in part.

Rwanda league was halted in March owing to the effects caused by the coronavirus pandemic and could not resume after the country remained under lockdown.

However, in August, FERWAFA approved the competition calendar for the new campaign and also scheduled some of the competitions which had been postponed owing to Covid-19.

It is worth noting that in May, APR were later declared champions as they were leading the league log when the season was suspended.

Heroes FC and Gicumbi FC were consequently relegated from the top-tier to the Second Division League based on their standings.
