Two-time Olympic 800m champion David Rudisha is lucky to be alive after being involved in a horrific car accident in Kenya on Saturday.

According to eyewitnesses, Rudisha was lucky to escape with minor injuries as his Toyota V8 was completely written-off.

The 10.30 pm incident occurred at a notorious black spot along the Kisii-Keroka highway where he rammed into the public service vehicle from behind.

Rudisha was rushed to a hospital in Keroka and later moved to Kilgoris Sub-County Hospital after complaining of lower limbs and chest pains.

He was treated and later discharged after the x-ray reports showed no fractures.

The 30-year-old world record holder was unreachable on phone but he later posted on Facebook: “I am well and unhurt from this morning’s accident.”

“Thank you for your prayers and concern. And above all, I thank God for keeping everyone else involved safe.”

“A special thank you to the other road users who rushed to the scene to help me out of the car after the incident.”
