Ferdinand Omanyala Sets Year’s Best Time in 100m at Athletics Kenya Meet

Ferdinard Omanyala ran a world-leading 9.86 seconds to win the 100 metres heat at Athletics Kenya Weekend Meet held at Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi Friday.

The Kenyan led from block to finish despite saying beforehand was not fully fit as it was his first race of the season.

[perfectpullquote align=”full” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]”We came here to do business; we never came to joke. The plan was to get it right from the heats. We’ll see about tomorrow (running another sub-10), I don’t want to promise anything,”[/perfectpullquote]

an elated Omanyala said after the race.

South Africa’s Henricho Bruintjies found the going tough after a mishap at the blocks saw him finish sixth in the second heat in 10.94.

Omanyala is the current Commonwealth and African 100m champion and was expected to be given a challenge by Bruintjies, who is Africa 100m, bronze medallist.

The University of Nairobi alumni, Omanyala, is a father of one and a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry holder from the College of Biological and Physical Sciences.

He decided to join athletics 2016 and, at one, was handed a 14-month suspension by the Anti-doping Agency of Kenya (Adak) for using a performance enhancing substance.

He served the ban for using glucocorticoid betamethasone, a substance the World Anti-Doping Agency banned.
