Nigeria Striker Asisat Oshoala Ruled Out Of WAFCON With Injury

Asisat Oshoala will play no further part in Women’s Africa Cup of Nations after withdrawing from Nigeria squad with an injury.

The Barcelona striker sustained a Grade 2 Medial Collateral Ligament strain during Super Eagles defeat to South Africa three days ago.

The issue forced the 27-year-old out of the game late in second stanza, but it was hoped that he would be available for the knockout stages.

She is expected to fly back to Barcelona on Thursday to be assessed by doctors at the Spanish Primera Division club.

Nigeria are set to face Botswana in their second group match but Super Falcons head coach Randy Waldrum has declined to comment on Oshoala’s absence.

“We are definitely going to make some changes from our first game. The atmosphere in camp is good and we have regrouped. We want to win our next game.”

Oshoala is a key figure in Nigeria squad having has won the African Cup of Nations four times, played in the World Cup  two times, and was a runner-up at the U20 World Cup in 2014.

The Super Falcons  currently sit third in Group C behind table leaders Botswana and second-placed South Africa .
