Nigeria Name Strong Squad for Cyprus Tournament

Super Falcons head coach Thomas Dennerby has named a 24-woman squad to take part in the Cyprus Women’s Cup this month.

Super Falcons head coach Thomas Dennerby has named a 24-woman squad to take part in the Cyprus Women’s Cup this month.

Dennerby has left out two players from the squad which took on the Romania and South Korea in China last month. The players are defender Ugochi Emenayo and striker Alice Ogebe.

The Cyprus Cup will be played from February 26 to March 6. Falcons’ opening game in Group C will be against Austria on February 27. The other countries in Group C are Belgium and Slovakia.

The tournament is part of Nigeria’s preparation for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup, which will be held in France from June 7 to July 7.

South Africa will be the other African team in the World Cup and will also be taking part in the 12-nation Cyprus invitational tourney.

The Banyana Banyana will fly out on Saturday. They are in Group B with Finland, Czech Republic, and Korea DPR.
