Botswana Sack “Most Successful Coach”

Botswana Football Association are on the search for a new coaching staff after sacking David Bright as national team manager.

Botswana Football Association are on the search for a new coaching staff after sacking David Bright as national team manager.

It followed a string of abysmal performances and Coach David Bright’s failure to qualify The Zebras to the Nations Cup in Egypt.

Considered the landlocked country’s most successful of domestic coaches, the former army major is axed over his inability to achieve what the Botswana FA called “the deliverables.”

Out of five matches in the Nations Cup Group 1, The Zebras have managed a return of just a single point –attained in the goalless draw with Niger – as they occupy the log’s basement.

“We have done a thorough assessment of the team’s performance. The introspection hinged on so many aspects. The coach had a target of qualifying for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations finals, it was one of the deliverables,” Botswana football boss Mfolo Mfolo says.

“He was also expected to raise the profile of the team, by improving our [Fifa] rankings by 15 places. The opportunity was there to qualify [for the Nations Cup].

“We are now ranked 145, so it was only right that we part amicably with the coach,” he said.

David becomes the twelfth coach to occupy the zebras’ national team managerial helm.

The FA have not endeavoured to explain whether the 62-year-old will be handed a severance package.
