The 25-year-old is reported to have stated that he wants to leave the club at all costs for Olympic Marseille or any other bigger club.

Rennes manager Julien Stephan has since been quoted saying that it is clear that the Senegalese international does not share his vision at the club and he is free to leave.

Niang joined the Red and Blacks permanently in May last year after convincing showings which earned him a four-year contract from Italian club Torino.

In the 2019-20 season, Niang scored 15 goals and provided two assists in 36 appearances across all competitions.

Niang started his career in the French lower divisions with Caen’s second team before graduating to the first team.

He then went on to play for another French club Montpellier and three Italian sides Milan, Genoa and Tonrino.

Niang also featured in the Premier League for Watford in the 2016/2017 season.

At the international level, Niang has been capped 14 times, scoring four goals, since making his international debut against Cape Verde in a 2018 World Cup qualifier.
