Egypt Football Association (EFA) has confirmed Technical Director Mahmoud Saad tested positive for coronavirus.

In a statement, EFA said that measures have been taken to protect those who had come in contact with Saad, who tested positive after a meeting with Egyptian football coaches in Cairo.

“Saad will follow the treatment protocol to fight the virus,” the EFA added.

The 63-year-old is a former coach at Zamalek SC and once served at ther Confederation of African Football.

Even though he contacted the virus at the federation premises, EFA stated that all preventive measures have been taken within the federation building since the beginning of the pandemic.

The Egyptian football has been under suspension since mid-March as the number of coronavirus cases continues to rise.

Initially, the fixtures in the North African football powerhouse were suspended for two weeks, but it was extended.

Unconfirmed reports indicated that the league had been cancelled without any promotion or relegation, but the EFA has since denied making such a decision.

Runaway leaders Ahly are overwhelming favourites to win a fifth straight league title.

So far Premier League clubs such as Zamalek, Ismaily, Masry, Smouha, Tanta and Wadi Degla have shown signs of giving up the title chase, as they have called the federation to cancel the season due to the health concerns.
