Mark Makwatta Impresses On His Zesco Debut

Striker John Mark Makwatta marked his debut for Zesco United with a goal as the Zambian champions beat Mufulira Wanderers 2-0 at Shinde Stadium.

Striker John Mark Makwatta marked his debut for Zesco United with a goal as the Zambian champions beat Mufulira Wanderers 2-0 at Shinde Stadium.

The former AFC Leopards marksman, who penned a three year deal with the Zambian Super League giants, inked his name in the scorers’ book late in the second half after receiving an assist from another Kenyan international Jesse Were.

Winston Kalengo had put the Ndola-based club ahead in the first half of the encounter after he capitalised on Wanderers keeper’s poor clearance to fire into an empty net.

The win pushed Zesco to 4th position on the log with 38 points, while Wanderers remained rooted at the bottom with nine points after the 20th round of matches.

The former Ulinzi Stars striker joined AFC Leopards in September after parting ways with Kuwaiti side Al Ansr.

Makwatta is no stranger in Zambia having played previously for Buildcon in 2018.

The striker impressed in the Kenyan Premier League before his move to Zesco and currently remains the leading scorer with 13 goals.

Zesco United will take on Power Dynamos in the next game scheduled to be played on Sunday at the Arthur Davies Stadium.
