Libya Begin Search For A New Coach

Ali El Margini has left his role as the Libya’s Mediterranean Knights head coach citing personal reasons, Ducor Sports reports.

Ali El Margini has left his role as Libya’s Mediterranean Knights head coach citing personal reasons, Ducor Sports reports.

The tactician who took over from Faouzi Benzarti in September was tasked to lead the North African nation to the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

In his three matches in charge, Libya lost an international friendly to Comoros and two Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers to Equatorial Guinea.

In an interview, El Margini confirmed leaving the job and blamed the three losses to the absence of three players.

He was also unhappy with the level of criticism that was levelled against him by a section of football fans in the country.

Ahmed Senfaz, who was El Margini’s assistant, is expected to take charge in the interim as Libya Football Federation begins the search for a more experienced coach to take over before next year’s Africa Nations Championship (CHAN).

Libya bottom of Group J on three points with Tanzania on four and Equatorial Guinea on six. Tunisia top the group having already qualified for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
