Kibu Salvages A Point For Simba

Simba SC held Namungo to a 2-2 draw in their Tanzania Mainland Premier League clash played at Ilulu Stadium in Linda on Tuesday afternoon.

The Msimbazi Reds  started the better of the two sides, although hardly had any efforts on target, despite the good work from Dennis Kibu down the flanks.

Namungo eventually broke the deadlock in the eighth minute when Jacob Masawe headed in  Frank Magingi’s well taken corner.

The home side then started defending too deep and this allowed Simba to press them, and Namungo goalkeeper Robert Kissu had to produce a double save to deny Medie Kagere.

Masawe should have doubled the lead in the 30th minute, he pounced on a poor back pass form Simba’s Joash Onyango but could not keep his composure as he dragged his effort wide of the mark.

Simba eventually leveled the matters in the 42nd minute, as Mzamiru Yassin broke down the left wing, before teeing up Shomary Kapombe, whose shot left Kissu helpless.

The visitors got stronger as the second half went on, controlling possession of the ball, as well as restricting Namungo in attack.

Robert Kissu came to Simba rescue two minutes later, with a great reaction save to keep to deny Jonas Mkunde.

Simba squandered a glorious chance in the 38th minute, as Peter Banda managed to head wide of an open goal from six-yards out.

Namungo restored their lead 10 minutes into the second half, when Obrey Chirwa headed home past Aishi Manula after the visitors defence failed to clear a cross inside the area.

The visitors struggled to get going in the opening exchanges of the  second half, as they were often wasteful when in possession of the ball.

However, they got themselves back into the game in the 79th minute, when un-marked Dennis Kibu sent a powerful shot from outside the box after being picked up by Yussuf Mhilu.

Namungo continued to search for more goals and went close in the 86th minute, as Reliant Lusajo’s effort from the edge of the area sailed inches over the crossbar.

Pape Sakho nearly won it for Simba in stoppage time but his stinging effort was palmed away by Robert Kissu as both sides were forced to share the spoils.
