Horoya AC Coach Patrice Neveu Satisfied With His Side’s CAF Champions League Draw

Horoya AC head coach Patrice Neveu was relatively satisfied with the CAF Champions League group stage draw that was held on Friday evening in Cairo.

The 64-year-old’s side received a rather favorable draw as they were placed in Group B alongside last season’s winners Esperance de Tunis and group stage first timers FC Platinum, and South African outfit Orlando Pirates.

Nonetheless, Horoya’s draw was met with rather positive reactions from many, none more so important than the former Mauritania national team head coach, who is adamant that his side will advance to the knock-out stage of the competition.

“We hoped to avoid the defending champion Esperance de Tunis which is a very big team. But what I can say it is a fair draw. Besides, it’s an opportunity to meet new teams,” said Neveu.

Horoya staged one of the greatest CAF comebacks to reach the group stage, scoring in the second minute of second-leg stoppage time to pip Libyans Al Nasr 6-5 overall.

“We have to win our games at home because it’s the most important. In any case, we must take the maximum points at home,” he added.

Meanwhile, Neveu has issued a rallying cry to Horoya AC supporters to come out in numbers for all their home games.

“In our match against Al Nasr, you saw the chain of solidarity around the team. So we will need it again for other victories. I congratulate fans for their support. And I encourage them to always be united behind us.”
