Guy Bukasa Appointed New Rayon Sports Coach

Rwanda Premier League giants Rayon Sports on Thursday announced the appointment of Guy Bukasa as the club’s new head coach on a one-year deal.

The Congolese tactician replaces Casa Mbungo, who parted ways with Rayon after just six months in charge.

Bukasa spent last season with Gasogi United, having joined the Rwandese outfit from AS Nyuki in his native DR Congo where he serves as an assistant coach for the national team.

“We are delighted to announce the appointment of Guy Bukasa (Coupe du Congo 2018 winner) as Head Coach on a contract that runs until the end of the 2020/21 season,” Rayon said in a statement on their Twitter handle.

Bukasa will be tasked with leading Rayon back to glory after finishing second in the Rwanda Premier League in 2019/2020 season.

The team failed to replicate its fine 2018 show where they won the Rwanda Premier League title and went on to qualify for that season’s CAF Confederations Cup quarterfinals under coach Ivan Minnaert.

Gasogi were hoping to hand Bukasa a new deal but he decided to reject their improved offer at the last minute and join the nine-time Rwanda champions.
