Guinean Football Player Slumps And Dies During Training

Football fraternities in Guinea on Tuesday, April 20 went into mourning following news of the tragic death of Mohamed Latige Camara, a Hafia FC player who slumped and died in the middle of a training session in Nongo.

Camara, who once received a call up to Syli Nationale CHAN team, was training with the Conakry giants in preparations for a local league match against arch-rivals Horoya AC set to be played on Thursday.

According to local media reports, medical professionals rushed rushed to the pitch to try to resuscitate the player after he slumped. Hafia FC communications team reported the player died later in the afternoon.

“It is with deep sadness we confirm that Mohamed Latige Camara sadly passed away earlier today after collapsing in training,” reads a statement from the club as translated from French.

“We cannot say any more at the moment and we request that his family’s privacy be respected at this difficult time. We ask for all your prayers.”

In his three seasons at Hafia the midfielder made over 80 appearances, including 12 in the current season.

He re-joined Hafia from Fello Star in March 2020 having won the jersey of the legendary club between 2016 and 2018.
