Former Eswatini international Bongani Masangane has been arrested after being found in possession of bhang.

The 42-year-old, who played for Eswatini national team in the early 2000’s, was arrested with five kilogrammes of the banned substance outside a police station in capital Mbabane.

According to Public Prosecutor and the Judicial Police, Masangane had tried to storm a local police station while demanding a trading licence for the banned substance.

“Yes, it is true that ‘Ndezi’ Masangane was arrested by the Manzini police for possession of bhang,” said the Public Prosecutor.

“This is obviously a significant seizure for the Eswatini Police Service.”

Masangane played for Mbabane Highlanders in early 2000 before he was lured by ABSA Premiership side Black Leopards to their camp.

He had made his name in his homeland for his sterling performance during 2002’s COSAFA Cup Castle against Zimbabwe for his timely tackles.

He retired in 2006 after almost 15 years as a player.

Masangane is currently being detained at an undisclosed police station awaiting to be charged in court on Monday.
