Lawyers for Samuel Eto’o Deny Reports that he’s Facing Legal Action for Match-Fixing

Lawyers representing Cameroonian Football Federation (Fecafoot) president Samuel Eto’o have refuted claims that the former striker has been informed of legal action against him.

Over the past few days, there have been widespread media reports that the former striker was facing action linked to match-fixing allegations.

A Cameroonian police document spoke of allegations of “abuse of authority, corruption,” and other unnamed claims, according to the BBC.

Vey & Associes, a French law firm representing the former Barcelona player, said in a statement that the accusations made against the 42-year-old were “calumnious rumors” and that Eto’o had not been informed of any legal action or received any kind of summons.

The BBC says the police reports appear to be based on a redacted image of a document that appears to be official-looking.  Cameroonian authorities are yet to release an official statement to authenticate the document.
