Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting Extends Stay With Bayern Munich

Cameroon national team captain Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting has ended speculations surrounding his future after signing a contract extension with Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich.

Bayern Munich have confirmed the 32-year-old striker has extended his stay with the club after penning a new deal that will run until 2023.

Since joining the Reds at the start of last season he’s scored nine goals in 32 matches for Bayern last season in all competitions.

“We are happy that Maxim will stay with us for another two years,” said Bayern Munich board member for Sport Hasan Salihamidzic said in an interview.

“He is a very important player for us, performing strongly last season and scoring many goals. Maxim can be used in several positions, has very good technique, a lot of experience and is a goal threat. Aside from his sporting quality, Maxim is also important for our team as a person. He will help us achieve our goals in the next two years.”

On his part, Choupo-Moting said he was delighted after Bayern managed to tie him on a new-long term contract.

“I am proud to be here. FC Bayern is a very special club, the number one club in Germany and also one of the best clubs in the world. My first year here was great – on the pitch, but also off the pitch, we had a lot of fun together,” he said in an  interview.

“I want to continue to have success with the team, I’d like to reach the DFB Cup final in Berlin and ideally win the Champions League.

“I’m looking forward to getting to know Munich even better, to becoming even more at home here, because Munich is a beautiful city.”

A former Germany youth international,  Choupo-Moting switched international allegiance to Cameroon in 2010.

He has represented Indomitable Lions for three Africa Cup of Nations finals and 2010 World Cup in South Africa following his debut in 2015.

He took the Indomitable Lions armband prior to the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, taking over from Benjamin Moukandjo, who announced retirement from international duty few months before the finals.
