CECAFA Senior Women’s Championship Draw Set for Wednesday

The Burundi national women’s football team will know what they will be up against in the Cecafa Senior  Women’s Championship when the draw is conducted on Wednesday.

The tournament will run from May 22nd to June 5th at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru, Uganda.

The regional tournament returns after a two-year hiatus due to Covid-19. And its going to be held in the Eastern part of Uganda, which has severally held the tournament in past few years.

According to Cecafa Online, the Cecafa Senior Women’s Championship will have eight teams participating. They include Uganda as the hosts, Rwanda, Djibouti, Burundi, Ethiopia, Tanzania, South Sudan and Zanzibar.

Burundi and Uganda are expected to use the Championship to prepare their teams ahead of the TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations to take place in July in Morocco.

The regional championship was last held in 2019 when Kenya beat Tanzania to win the title in Dar es Salaam.

However, Kenya will not be defending their title as they were indefinitely suspended from all international activities over government interference.
