CAF Women’s Champions League Semi-Final Lineup Complete

The CAF Women’s Champions League semi-final lineup has been confirmed following the final round of group stage fixtures on Saturday.

Kenyan champions Vihiga Queens crashed out of the competition after suffering a 4-0 defeat to Rivers of Nigeria in a Group B match played at 30 June Stadium.

Rivers scored the foul goals in the second stanza of the match courtesy of Kechukwu Obianujuwan Vivian’s brace and a goal each from Koku Iyabo Oluwadamilola and Monday Gift.

South African side Mamelodi Sundowns and Morocco’s ASFAR Rabat advanced to the semifinals from Group B despite playing to a goalless draw in the in their final group B encounter.

The Brazilians top the group on seven points, while ASFAR are second on four points. Rivers Angels and Vihiga Queens have three points each but the Nigerians have a superior goal difference.

Sundowns will face Equatorial Guinean side Malabo Queens, who booked a ticket to the semis after a 1-1 draw against AS Mande in their last Group A match.

AS Mande scored an early goal on the second minute by Bassira Toure, then Malabo Kings cancelled it courtesy of Mary Lynda Abossolo’s strike in the last minute of the match.

For ASFAR, they will face Ghana’s representatives Sekondi Hasaacas who finished top of Group A after recovering from two scary moments to draw 2-2 with Egypt’s Wadi Degla.

Hasaacas, who are West Africa Football Union (WAFU) Zone B champions, had to come from behind to share the points against the Egyptians who desperately needed to win to remain in the competition.

The Ghanaians had already secured their semi-finals ticket coming into this game, after hammering AS Mande 3-0 in their second group match.
