CAF Confirms TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations Cote d’Ivoire 2023 Pot Seeding Ahead of 12 October Official Draw

The official draw will be held in Abidjan on October 12, 2023, at 19h00 GMT.

The seeding for the official final draw is based on the latest FIFA rankings. The 24 qualified teams have been allocated to four pots based on the rankings.

Four points will be used for the official draw, CAF has confirmed.

The hosts, Cote d’Ivoire, will be in Pot 1 along with the top-ranked countries: Morocco, who advanced to the semifinals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar; Senegal, who are the current African Champions; Algeria, who won the tournament in 2019; and Egypt, who set a record for most victories.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria, who last won the trophy in South Africa in 2013, as well as the five-time champions Cameroon and Mali, the 2021 semifinalist Burkina Faso, Ghana, and Congo DR, are among the teams in Pot 2.

The consistently improving Cape Verde will be paired in Pot 3 with the 2012 champion Zambia, the 1996 champion South Africa, Guinea, Equatorial Guinea, and Mauritania.

Pot 4 will contain the lowest-ranked teams in the competition. Angola, hosted in 2010, will be together with Guinea-Bissau, Namibia, The Gambia, and Tanzania.
