Two Algerian premier league club bosses have been slapped with a 24-month suspension and a one million dinars fine each, Ducor Sports can report.

Cherif Mellal and Arama Tarek are being punished after Algeria’s league disciplinary committee found them guilty of attempting to influence the outcome of league games.

The controversial Mellal had called Tarek, whose club CS Constantine were to play eventual league champions USM Alger in the build up to what was a final league game day.

Mellal’s JSK were trailing USM by a solitary point and so Mellal phoned Tarek offering an undisclosed amount to talk Constantine players not to lose against a visiting Alger.

However, Constantine ended up losing 3-1 crowning Alger instead as champions with Kabylie having to contend with finishing second despite winning 2-0 to CA Borj May 26th.

An angry Mellal took to social media alleging match-fixing sparking a row between the two clubs which in turn prompted an investigation by the league’s disciplinary body.

Both bosses were summoned before the committee to answer to the charges and were each given a 2-year ban from football with a mandatory Algerian one million dinar fines.

Cherif and Arama have vowed to stage a press conference to react with an appeal being mooted.
