Amazulu To Step Up A Gear In African Champions League

South Africa Premier Soccer League side Amazulu will play host to ES Setif of Tunisia on Friday, in matchday 3 of the CAF Champions League.

Stunned 1-0 by Raja Casablanca away in their campaign opener, Usuthu recorded their first-ever victory in the group stage beating Horoya 1-0 in and the win took them to second place on the Group B standings.

Amazulu are now set to give a boost to their continental journey with a convincing victory over the Guinean heavyweight.

Usuthu are coming into the match with a lack of conviction in domestic league after being held to a goalless draw by TS Galaxy on Tuesday where they struggled to launch attacks, but still, their forwards took turns to miss chances.

“We let a big one slip, this was a game where we probably could’ve gotten easier three points more than any other game but it was not to be. Now we can focus and concentrate on Friday on the Caf Champions League,” McCarthy told the club’s media department.

Level on three points with the South Africans, Setif got their campaign off to a winning start after seeing off Horoya AC 1-0, before falling 1-0 to Raja Casablanca in Morocco last weekend.

Setif will have a good opportunity to secure the upper hand over their rivals before hosting them in Tripoli two weeks later.

The Black Eagles are reported to be experiencing financial difficulties which had threatened their trip to South Africa, but their domestic rivals CR Belouizdad stepped into their rescue.

Setif are not new to a South African opposition having played Orlando Pirates in last season’s CAF Champions League and have also previously met Mamelodi Sundowns in the CAF Champions League.
