Kenya Suspended From International Football By FIFA

Kenya have been suspended from all international football by FIFA amid allegations of government interference in its football federation.

The move follows the government’s refusal to comply with an order to reinstate the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) executive committee which was fired late last year.

The FKF was dissolved by the country’s Sports Minister Amina Mohammed  on 11 November , accusing it of incompetence.

FKF has been at loggerheads with the government for several months over allegations of financial mismanagement.

Amina suspended the FKF executive headed by Nick Mwendwa and replaced it with an interim body ahead of new elections which have yet to be held.

But FIFA took exception to the move, accusing the Kenyan government of “violating regulations, refusing attempts to resolve the situation while meddling in the affairs of football”.

Kenya’s  government had said their move was essential while legal proceedings against the country’s football authority were ongoing, with FKF president Nick Mwendwa arrested before being free on bail.

Meanwhile, FIFA has banned Zimbabwe from the international stage after government dissolved the country’s football federation in November 2021.
