Amazulu Defender To Replace Sifiso Hlanti In Bafana Bafana Team

Amazulu defender Tercious Malepe has been called to the Bafana Bafana squad preparing for upcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Zimbabwe and Ghana.

Bafana Bafana will host Zimbabwe at FNB Stadium on Thursday before travelling to Ghana to face the four-time Afcon winners three days later for what’s expected to be the group G decider.

Amazulu’s Malepe comes to Sifiso Hlanti who injured his Achillies tendon during training with his side Kaizer Chiefs on Thursday and will be probably be out for next few months.

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos hinted on the development on Sunday as the players reported to the residential camp for the two crucial matches.

“Yes, just like with (Mothobi) Mvala, two players I could need for games like Ghana,” he told Bafana’s media department.

“Now they are not there, but there will be others and it’s up to them if they get their chances to take them.”

South Africa currently lead Group G with 10 points after four matches with Ghana a point behind.

Ethiopia and Zimbabwe have both been eliminated from contention after failing to win crucial matches.
