English Premier League side Watford have confirmed the signing of Nigerian international goalkeeper Maduka Okoye .

The 22-year-old has penned five-and-a-half year deal that will begin on January 1, 2022 and run until the end of the 2026-27 season.

Okoye will stay at former side, Eredivisie outfit Sparta Rotterdam, on loan until the end of the 2021/22 campaign.

The highly-rated glovesman took to his official Instagram account on Monday  night to celebrate the move with a message that said,

[perfectpullquote align=”full” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]”I’m overwhelmed to sign for @watfordfcofficial , to play in the Premier League is something I’ve been dreaming about since I was a little boy. I can’t wait to get started with the team upcoming season 2022/2023!”[/perfectpullquote]

Okoye, born in Dusseldorf, started his football career at Bayer Leverkusen academy between 2012 and 2017, he proceeded to Fortuna Dusseldorf to become a professional.

He received his first invitation to Nigeria U-23 team in 2019 for an Olympics qualifier but club commitments held him back.

The 6ft 6in shot-stopper finally yielded Nigeria’s call in August 2019 when he was invited for an international friendly match against Ukraine.

He made his debut two months later against Brazil in Singapore, after replacing the injured Francis Uzoho in the game that ended 1-1.

Okoye has become the Super Eagles first-choice goalkeeper having played in ten of their last eleven matches, and most recently featured in their double-header friendly against Central-African Republic.
