A Little Arrogance Could Have Kept Chembo at Zesco

George ‘Chicken’ Lwandamina was officially unveiled as Zesco United boss in the morning of 3rd May. The former Zambia national team boss takes over from Tenant Chembo who was serving in an interim capacity but left to join Team Kopala as Head coach.

Lwandamina left Zesco United back in 2016 for greener pastures in Tanzania at Young Africans  (Yanga). Zlatko Krympotic was appointed to take over assisted by Chembo.

After just eight months, The Serbian was put on leave and Chembo took over in the interim. The now Buildcon coach was given the target of wrapping up the league which he did and then reaching the CAF champions league group stages which he also did but according to a source Ducor Sports  close to Zesco United a little arrogance could have earned him the Zesco job on permanent basis.

[perfectpullquote align=”full” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]” Yes ofcourse they were skeptical about giving him the job because he had never been tried and tested as a head coach but maybe a little arrogance and boldness would have helped him earn their respect because he did everything they asked,”[/perfectpullquote]

The source said

” Taking the Buildcon job will earn him the respect he needs and maybe someday he will come back and coach Zesco United, The team he loves so much,” The source added.

Zesco United have their man, Lwandamina as Chembo is now on the other side of Ndola and only time will tell who made the right choice.
