Zesco host Swallows, Looking for a Good Start to CAF CL Group Stage

Zambia Super League defending champions Zesco United, Will today start their CAF Champions League group stage journey with a tricky encounter against a familiar opponent in Swaziland Champions Mbabane Swallows.

The 2016 semi-finalists were drawn in group D alongside Etoile du Sahel of Tunisia, Primeiro de Agosto of Angola and today’s opponents Mbabane Swallows of Swaziland.

Swallows alongside KCCA of Uganda and Township Rollers of Botswana are the three dark horses of this years prestigious tournament making it to the group stage for the very first time. Swallows have already claimed the scalp of a Zambian opponent in seven time Super League Champions Sensational Zanaco.

On their route to the group stage, Swallows eliminated Bantu Rovers on away goals rule before beating Zanaco home and away. Zesco United on the other hand thrashed JKU of Zanzibar 7 nil on aggregate before eliminating Asec Mimosas of Ivory coast on away goals rule.

With  Coach George Lwandamina’s return Zesco United are looking to go all the way and win the competition and as such a good start will be vital for the ambitious Zambians.

Lwandimina will be banking on the attacking prowess of Kenyan talisman Jesse Jackson Were and inform Lazarous Kambole to get him the goals in the absence of the injured Zikiru Adams who already has four goals to his name.
