Trouble at Algerian Club Bejaia as Players Protest Non-payment of Salaries

Players of Algerian Premier League club MO Bejaia have staged a strike threatening not to honor games if their salaries aren’t settled, Ducor Sports understands.

Players were due to show up for their usual morning training routine on Monday but none showed up at the side’s training grounds, choosing to stay away instead.

It’s understood some of the players haven’t been paid for over six months and bonuses have been overlooked by the club board too.

Bejaia is battling a financial crisis and the result has certainly reflected in the team’s performances in the North African nation’s top tier as they occupy second last position in the 16-team standings, two points between them and bottom-placed USM Bel Abbes.

The likelihood of a dramatic turnaround in performances remain high but considering the prevailing circumstances, that is only achievable if the current saga is tackled amid unconfirmed reports that sponsors are distancing themselves from the club.

The players are demanding to be paid three months’ of earnings as a condition to resume proper training.
