Tunisia’s Star Msakni’s World Cup Dream Over

Youssef  Msakni is a broken man after learning his World Cup dreams are over.

The 27-year-old, Qatari Stars’ League second best leading scorer, damaged his right knee ligament.

Youssef was rested in the first period of a league game against Al Saliya before climbing off the bench in the 46th minute only to be subbed out later.

The incident followed a tackle he sustained. The captain fell on the turf clutching his knee as grimaced in agony.

Examinations later conducted by club doctors confirmed the former Esperance’s star will be out on the peripheries for up to six months.

The news comes much as a massive blow for table-topping Al Duhail. Meaning, they will have to do without the attacker who’d scored more than twenty-five times this campaign.

Tunisia will be affected most who were counting on the on-form goal-getter in their return to the World Cup in Russia.

Valued in excess of over €3m in the transfer market and with a contract running until 2021, Youssef is capped 47 times for the Carthage Eagles.
