Liberia Division One Championship: LISCR Prepares for Double Title Defense with Four Gambians On Roster

[perfectpullquote align=”full” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]“Everybody is preparing for us so we also have to prepare ourselves to defend our titles and set a new record in the CAF Champions League,”[/perfectpullquote]

LISCR head coach Tapha Manneh told sports journalists after his team embarked on the signing of additional players ahead of the new season.

In their quest to defend their double title and represent Liberia in the 2018 CAF Champions League, the Shipping Boys on December 4th resumed training sessions at the George Weah Technical Center in Careysburg.

Under the guidance of Gambian Coach, Tapha Manneh who made his debut in the Liberian league with LISCR last season then won the double after conceding just one defeat – 14 draws and 15 wins in the championship and FA Cup matches. They won the championship after rivals FC Fassell lost 12 points for fielding ineligible players. They subsequently became double champions after thrashing ELWA United 3-0 in the FA Final on August 13, 2017.

Going into the new league season as defending champions and Liberia’s next representative at the CAF Champions League, a huge task lies ahead for Coach Manneh and his boys. However, the 2017 LFA 1st division champions seem to be in full readiness for the upcoming challenges.

For undisclosed fees in November, the side added to its roster defensive duo, Arona Jabang, and Adama Sabally, forward Bully Drammeh all from Real de Banjul, and striker Mustapha Njie formerly of Bombada.

The four Gambians are among nine new players signed by the ‘Shipping Boys’ during the ongoing transfer window. LISCR also secured the signatures of five top-class players including striker Mark Paye and left –back Hilton Varney, center-back Kemoh Kamara-all from BYC, top-scorer and striker Amadia Kawah from Keitrace FC, and forward Terrance Tisdell from FC Fassel.

With those new players on board, the title defense for LISCR promises to be intriguing.  The new season is expected to resume in the second week of January 2018.
