Zimbabwe Kick Player Out of AFCON Over Social Media Post

Zimbabwe have expelled midfielder Kudakwashe Mahachi from their squad for indiscipline, the fourth player to be turned out by his team at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Zimbabwe have expelled midfielder Kudakwashe Mahachi from their squad for indiscipline, the fourth player to be turned out by his team at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Reports suggest that the 25-year-old South Africa based player was asked to return home after team management expressed regret over his social media complaints at being left out of the starting line-up that did duty against Uganda.

The decision comes on the eve of a must-win Group A match against DR Congo that will be played at 30 June Stadium.

“Kudukwashe Mahachi is banned from the national squad after discussions with the team’s technical and administrative bodies. This is to maintain the discipline and focus of the team,” said the Zimbabwe head of delegation Farai Jere.

Burundi sent home 32-year-old midfielder Selemani Ndikumana for ill-discipline before their first game without offering any further details. On Wednesday Egypt sent Amr Warda packing for what the Egypt Football Association described as “disciplinary reasons”.

The Warriors technical bench is also investigating two players, Tafadzwa Kutinyu and Tino Kadewere, exchanged blows during training before a friendly match against Tanzania.
