Zimbabwe Coach Joey Antipas Resigns

Joey Antipas has resigned as the Zimbabwe national team head coach citing personal reasons.

Antipas tendered his resignation just hours after his charges beat Zambia 2-1 in a 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier on Tuesday.

Zimbabwe Football Association confirmed Antipas’ sudden departure even as Rwanda emerges as a possible destination for Chickens Inn coach.

The tactician’s resignation, though down to personal reasons, is a setback to the country’s ongoing AFCON qualifiers as he was an integral member of the technical bench.

Since the 61-year-old took over in August, the Warriors have lost one of seven games, with four wins and two draws.

Zimbabwe FA officials said Antipas is likely to be replaced by his assistant Tonderayi Ndiraya but a final decision would not be made until next week.

The Warriors are currently second in Group H of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers with 4 points from 2 games, 2 points behind leaders Algeria who are on 6 points.

Botswana is in thr 3rd position with a solitary point while Zambia props up the group with no point after losing 5-0 to Algeria and 2-1 to Zimbabwe.
