Zimbabwe Coach Impressed With Players Performance Despite Defeat To Algeria

Zimbabwe national team head coach Zdravko Logarusic says his team had a good game despite the defeat to Algeria in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

Zimbabwe national team head coach Zdravko Logarusic says his team had a good game despite the defeat to Algeria in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

The Warriors lost 3-1 to the Desert Foxes of Algeria in a Group H match hosted at Stade du 5 Juillet in Algiers on Thursday evening.

According to Loga, the Desert Foxes were the better side but his team was not outplayed in the game.

“I am happy that we managed to match the Algerians but they were able to finish their own chances while we failed,” the Croatian gaffer told reporters after the game.

“Although we have not been together with the team for some time, there are signs which are positive.”

Baghdad Bounedjah and Sofiane Feghouli scored in the first stanza after capitalizing on defensive blunders by the Warriors before Riyad Mahrez sucked the fight out of the South Africans.

France based striker Tinotenda Kadewere pulled one back for Zimbabwe with 11 minutes to go after beating the offside trap before chipping the onrushing M’Bolhi.

“I am happy with the overall performance of my team but disappointed with the result,” Loga added.

The match in Algiers was the first competitive meeting between the two nations since a 2-2 draw at the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations hosted in Gabon.

Algeria leads Group H with nine points after two matches in the qualifiers and is followed by Zimbabwe, which has four points. Other countries in the group are Botswana and Zambia.
