Zesco United Part Ways With Coach George Lwandamina

Zambia Super League giants Zesco United have announced the departure of coach George Lwandamina.

Zambia Super League giants Zesco United have announced the departure of coach George Lwandamina.

A statement by the club on Tuesday said the decision took immediate effect following reviews conducted by the club’s management.

Pressure has been mounting on Lwandamina after the Ndola club failed to make the grade for the 2020/2021 CAF season after finishing fifth in the 2019/2020 FAZ/MTN Super League Championship.

It will be the first time since 2012 that the eight times Zambia champions will not be among Africa’s elite teams that will be competing in the continental championships.

“ZESCO United Football Club management would like to thank coach George Lwandamina for his services in the last three seasons which resulted in the team winning two league titles and one Absa cup trophy,” said the club Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Richard Mulenga.

Mulenga has assured the club followers that the management will soon be announcing a new head coach ahead of the 2020/2021 FAZ/MTN Super League season.

“The club will immediately begin the recruitment process for a new full-time head coach,” he said.

Lwandamina was re-appointed in April 2018 taking over from Tenant Chembo who resigned as interim coach.

The former Yanga coach also served as Chipolopolo assistant coach under Herve Renard from 2008 to 2010.

His highlight was when he led Team Ya Ziko to the semi-finals of the CAF Champions League in 2016 as they lost to eventual champions Mamelodi Sundowns.
