Zesco United Bags 9th Title With Win Over Napsa Stars

Zesco United beat Napsa Stars 2-0 in Levy Mwanawasa Stadium on Sunday 13th May to bag their ninth title in style.

After a number of missed chances from both sides, Zesco opened the scoring in the 39th minute through Jesse Were who beat Shaban Ondoji with a hard shot from the edge of the box after tricking two defenders.

Congolese winger Kelvin Kapamba doubled the lead eight minutes to the end of the match with a simple tap off a Solomon Sakala clever pass.

Zesco could have gone ahead in the 11th minute, as Adrian Chama got on the end of Thabani Kamusoko ‘s flick on, but managed to blast over from close range.

Chama went even closer in the 23rd minute, as the midfielder showed good skill to beat his marker before volleying just wide of the upright.

The Team Ya Ziko  went in front nine minutes after half an hour mark when Were sent a powerful left-foot shot, with Odhoji well beaten.

Napsa will count themselves unlucky, having went into the break 1-0, after hitting the frame of the goal on two occasion.

Doisy Soko came close to giving the visitors an equalizer ten minutes after the halftime break but his effort from distance was palmed away by Toaster Nsabata.

Dickson Chapa squandered an opportunity to after the hour mark, the midfielder was picked out by Gift Zulu but managed to blast over from 12-yards out.

Obeng then passed up a chance to give Napsa an equalizer in the 74th minute as he headed wide of the mark from point-blank range.

Nsabata came to Zesco’s rescue in the 82nd minute, the shot-stopper pulled off a fine save to keep out Jacob Ngulube ‘s stinging effort from distance

Kelvin Kapamba extended Zesco’s lead on the 86th minute, the midfielder latched onto a knockdown before lobbing the on-rushing Odhoji, to seal the victory for the hosts.

Zesco introduced Samson Mkandawire for  Simon Silwimba 88th minute and they managed to hold on to the 2-0 scoreline to bag their 9th Zambia Super League title.
